Board Members
Twelve members constitute the Maryland State Library Board. The Governor appoints seven of these members as well as the Chair.

Kristen Pironis is the Chief Executive Officer of Visit Annapolis & Anne Arundel County, the region’s nonprofit destination marketing and management organization. Known for her strategic thinking and bold leadership philosophy, she plays a pivotal role in promoting Annapolis and Anne Arundel County, Maryland—advancing the organization’s mission to transform lives through travel.
Pironis serves on the Anne Arundel County Local Workforce Development Board, the Advisory Committee for Anne Arundel County’s Nonprofit Center @ 41 Community Place, and as Chair of the Maryland State Library Board. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from the University of Maryland and a Master’s in Nonprofit and Association Management from the University of Maryland Global Campus.

He is also adjunct faculty in library and information science at Catholic University and a councilor on the Maryland State Arts Council. Brown-Cáceres served as COO for Communication and Outreach (2020-2023) and Acting Co-CEO (2022-2023) of the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System. He previously worked at Washington Performing Arts and the Library of Congress, and he served in the 215th Army Band. He is a musician and author, and was the 2021 Library Journal Marketer of the Year. Brown-Cáceres is committed to supporting Maryland public libraries’ essential role in civic life, education, and community building. He is a proud resident of Prince George’s County.
| | Mychelle Farmer | Vice Chair | .jpg) | Mychelle joined the Maryland State Library Board in September 2023, and she currently serves as the board’s vice chair and leads the Advocacy Committee. Mychelle lives in Baltimore City and is an active member of the Board of Trustees of the Enoch Pratt Free Library. Mychelle is a public health physician and the Chief Medical Officer for Advancing Synergy, an organization focused on improving digital literacy and strengthening community health for all. |
